Alternatives Pregnancy Advice Centre [Bourne], Bourne

Alternatives Pregnancy Advice Centre opened in 1999 and provides a confidential, caring and practical response to women and their partners facing an unplanned pregnancy. We offer time to talk through the three options available and information on each choice so people can reach their own informed decision. Free pregnancy tests are available. We also provide support for those who have post abortion concerns or those who have experienced a miscarriage or stillbirth. We have a small supply of baby equipment and clothing which is a resource to those who have financial difficulties. We are always grateful for donations of good quality baby items for us to pass on to those in need. In addition we also offer a comprehensive schools’ programme including: • “evaluate…informing choice”, three dynamic and interactive power point presentations in line with the National Curriculum PSHE schemes of work for Years 7,9 and 11 covering healthy life style choices and sex and relationships. • The ‘Baby Think it Over’ programme, where following a series of sessions, a simulator baby can be taken home for a few days. • Class lessons on sex and relationships and abortion. We host regular “Mums 2 Be” antenatal days specifically designed for teenage parents. Topics covered include labour and birth and pain relief, feeding and newborn care. These days are supported by visiting healthcare professionals. We run Jeans Youth Café for teenagers which is open on a Friday and Saturday night providing a safe, adult style environment for young people to socialise. For further information on any of these projects please phone the centre on 01778 394935.
