They said there was a 1 in 5,000 chance of this happening and that I didn’t need to know about it. I now feel broken.

I found out I was pregnant and for my own personal reasons decided an abortion was the only option I had.

I attended a BPAS clinic where the staff scanned me and gave me treatment options. The earliest treatment date they had was in 2 weeks time making me 15 weeks 3 days pregnant.

I attended 3 days before my booked surgery for D&E. The midwife gave me a mifepristone tablet and said to take this at least 24 hours before the treatment, ideally on Thursday evening.

The treatment was scheduled for today at 8:15 am (Saturday). I took the tablet Thursday night at 11 pm and had no issues.

On Friday evening I didn’t feel myself. I went to bed and woke at 4 am. My waters broke and I began to bleed. By 6:30am I was having contractions every minute and got into the bath. At 6:40 am I gave birth in my bath alone.

This has been the worst experience of my life. The cord was still attached so I had no option but to call 999. An ambulance attended, removed the foetus and took me into hospital so I could be put to sleep to remove my placenta. All during this time I was still having contractions and losing a large volume of blood.

When I was given the tablet to prepare my cervix I was told there was a 1 in 5,000 chance of this happening and that I didn’t need to know or worry about it. I now feel broken.
