It’s against my beliefs to have a termination but I don’t feel I have a choice.

By anonymous on 30/01/2007
I am 5 weeks pregnant and also a mum of two and live alone. It’s against my beliefs to have a termination but I don’t feel I have a choice. Termination is right for me at the moment and, to be quite honest, I was really reassured by the fact the baby is the size of a pip and doesn’t have a heart beat yet.

I may just be trying to convince myself I am doing the right thing but, at the end of the day, I can’t take care of 3 children single-handedly. I was on the pill so as not to get pregnant. Termination isn’t wrong. I guess it’s just that one thing that actually takes more courage to do, than have a child knowing you can’t bring it up properly.

Editor’s note: Thank you for sharing your story with us. It sounds as if you are really trying to do what’s best for you and your family, facing this unexpected pregnancy under difficult circumstances. My concern for you is that you say termination is against your beliefs but that it is right for you. I wonder how much you are really at peace with yourself over this decision deep down. There seems to be some conflict within you that you may have tried to resolve simply by putting your beliefs aside under the pressure of feeling you have no choice. It might help you to talk it through with someone who understands what’s involved and who can be supportive. Please visit your nearest centre, or call the helpline or go on Online Advisor. We’ll be thinking of you.
