Hi, I’m 15 and think I might be pregnant.

Hi, I’m 15 and think I might be pregnant. I’ve missed a period about a week and a half ago and I’m worried about what I should do. Is it too early to take a test? My boyfriend and I have always wanted kids young, and be young parents, (like 4-5years time), but not this young and he says an abortion is the best thing to do. I know my mum wouldn’t let me have a baby at this age. Can you please put my mind at rest? Because I don’t know if I should be worrying about this yet when I don’t even know if I’m pregnant yet.

Editor’s note: Thanks for writing in…The first thing I would advise you to do is tell a trusted adult. If not a parent at the moment, then tell a teacher, doctor or youth worker, or another trusted relative.

It’s not too early to take a test. A test is what you need to do before you start worrying about anything else. I would advise that you don’t take a test on your own, but visit your nearest centre and have a test done there. Alternatively, you can visit a young person’s clinic or your nearest contraception and sexual health clinic. At one of our centres, if it is positive, you would then have someone to talk to about it for as long as necessary and be able to explore all your options and your feelings about each of them. If a decision about a pregnancy has to be made, then it has to be a decision that you make, not one that’s made for you.
