Hi, I am 26, married already. I want to do an abortion in the correct way because I did one a long time ago when I was a teenager in a very old dangerous traditional way and I nearly died. The reason I did that is that in my country abortion is illegal. I am scared to death now to have an abortion, even to hear the word. I am in a new country with a happy marriage and a child 2 years old, no friends, just living with fear, nightmares, shame, guilt and suicidal ideas about abortion. Can anyone help?Editor’s note: Thanks for writing in…You do not say anything about why you want an abortion, but it is clear that you feel very unsure about going through it again. The fear, guilt, shame and suicidal feelings seem to be very strong feelings in you. Your head – your rationality - may be saying this is right thing to do under the circumstances, but your heart has a strong message to give you as well. It’s important that you listen to your heart as well as your head. It may help you to find out if there are any counselling services in your new country that can help you to make your decision, or offer post-abortion support.
