A pregnancy using withdrawal method

By anonymous on 20/03/2011
Me and my husband already have two children, a boy and a girl and decided we didn't want anymore.
However, after using the withdrawal method, I have fallen pregnant.
I developed Hellp syndrome in both of my previous pregnancies and was advised not to have anymore and asked to be sterilised but they said I was a bit young and suggested I use the coil but I put it off, what a mistake that was.
We also have a lot of debts and are struggling financially. I was also diagnosed with depression after I lost my mum in December 2009.
All the baby things from our last baby have now been sold or given away so we would have to buy everything again and my husband doesn't want to risk something happening to me or the baby if we go through with it and is worried about the money and how I will cope with 3.
Deep down I know the right thing to do is have an abortion but part of me really wants to carry this baby and bring it into the world, despite everything.

It sounds like there's a battle going on between what your heart longs for and what your head tells you is the sensible decision. I can understand your husband's anxiety for you and your baby's health after developing Hellp (a serious complication of pre eclampsia) in 2 pregnancies. Sometimes it is important to listen to your heart but you have to weigh up how you would feel if you had an abortion, and look at the risks to your own health too. You may need to talk it through with your obstetrician before you finally decide. In terms of contraception I'm afraid withdrawal doesn't really work because there is leakage of semen before ejaculation, so its very easy to get pregnant. If you need support through your decision making process find a centre for crisis pregnancy support in your area. or call the national helpline 0300 4000 999.
