medical abortion abortion 7 weeks

I'm 28, have 2 boys age 11 and 4, and I've been with my husband for 12 years.

4 weeks ago I started to feel quite ill, really sick and dizzy which I put down to a 24 hour bug, but when it didn't go away and I started to dislike certain smells, I thought I'd best do a test just in case!

To my shock I was pregnant

To this day I would still never have known if it hadn't been for the sickness. I'd not missed my pill or ever had a problem with my pill and my periods are never regular so that wasn't anything strange.

I was so upset, my youngest has just started school so now it is my time to start looking for work and making a better life for us. I knew I didn't want another baby our life is complete.

I went to the doctors and broke down. She gave me a number to call for me to book an appointment at the hospital, and I got my appointment for the week after.

I was 7 weeks pregnant and decided on a medical abortion

I went and had a vaginal scan and was told I was 7 weeks pregnant and they went through the procedures with me. I decided on a medical abortion and was booked in for the following week.

Yesterday I went to hospital and was given 1 tablet to swallow and was allowed home after 10 mins.

I got to the hospital and threw up

Today I went in for the second half.

I got to the hospital and threw up in the car park, I was so scared after reading so many horror stories.

I went to the ward and was told to lie on the bed while the nurse inserted 4 tablets into my vagina, and then told to lie there for 45 mins.

After 45 mins, I had to walk around and after 2 hours I felt a small gush between my legs so rushed to the loo and the rest of my waters went and so did the fetus.

I didn't look I just felt a jelly-like sensation between my legs, and the nurse took it away and came back later to say 'yes you've passed it'.

Since then I've passed a few clots and some blood, but I feel great, no pain just a bit of stomach ache like period pains. I haven't needed any pain killers and I've been discharged.

I had to put an antibiotic up my bum, but they give you jel and gloves for this and Ii've been sent home with antibiotics.

Dont scare yourself with horror stories

Anyone who has to go through this please do not scare yourself with horror stories it just made me worse.

I feel fine as I know it was the right thing for us to do.

Thanks for sharing your experience, and it is helpful to get a variety of experiences from different people as they do vary so much. For some women the pain is much greater and they need a lot of pain relief, whereas your experience seemed a lot less painful and traumatic. It may be different if you have already had children and your cervix has been stretched open in the past. I hope that you make a good recovery and there is always post-abortion support available - if you would like to talk to someone find a centre for post-abortion support in your area.
